Education Access

In communities where poverty runs deep, education is often the first dream to be sacrificed. For families living on less than $2 a day, choosing between school fees and food is a painful reality. In Nairobi’s informal settlements, many children drop out simply because the cost of learning is too high.

weareMAYA bridges this gap by supporting families who want education for their children but cannot afford the basics. By covering school fees, uniforms, and supplies, we remove barriers that should never stand in the way of a child’s right to learn,  giving children a safe space, hope for the future, and families the dignity of stability

Digital Futures

With limited access to opportunities, too many young people are locked out of industries like media, design, and technology. Yet their creativity is boundless. Digital skills not only open pathways into employment, they give youth the power to influence, inspire, and shape culture.

Through training in videography, photography, storytelling, and digital content creation, weareMAYA equips youth with skills that translate into jobs and enterprise opportunities. From branded campaigns to community documentaries, these skills are proving that youth voices can shape narratives  and markets.

Youth Enterprise

In Kenya, 77% of youth are unemployed. If young people don’t create something, they have nothing. WeAreMAYA listens to youth, helping them turn their passions into self-sustaining ventures.

EchoWear is a youth-led upcycling brand transforming textile waste into fashion that sells. Putting money in pockets, skills in hands, and proves that what’s written off still has value.

EcoCycle is another youth-owned initiative tackling period poverty through enterprise. Created by young women who once relied on donations, EcoCycle redefines empowerment, providing sustainable access to essential products while creating income, skills, and dignity within their communities.

Vocational Opportunities

As mentors, we help youth recognise their potential and build practical pathways into meaningful employment.

We collaborate with like-minded organisations, accredited training institutes, and socially responsible businesses, because collaboration is key to real change. Together, we deliver vocational programmes in hospitality, sustainable fashion, technology, and creative industries all tailored to local market demand.

Through these partnerships, young people gain industry-recognised skills, hands-on experience, and access to real employment opportunities, helping them move from uncertainty to independence with confidence and dignity

Global Mentorship

Mentorship is at the heart of everything. We connect young people in underserved areas of East Africa with global mentors. Professionals, creatives, entrepreneurs, and athletes who share their time, knowledge, and lived experience to guide the next generation.

Through online sessions, workshops, and practical training, from business to the arts, and even sport – young people gain exposure to international standards in leadership, discipline, and personal growth.

Together, we’re building meaningful connections that open doors to new opportunities, helping youth turn guidance into action, and potential into purpose.

Grassroots Youth Hubs

Across Kenya, young people are already creating, learning, and leading within their own communities. weareMaya supports these locally driven spaces, helping them continue to grow as safe, empowering environments that offer an alternative to the risks of the streets and informal settlements.

Each hub provides stability, belonging, and opportunity. Nurturing creativity, skills, and confidence from childhood through to young adulthood. By working with local leaders, educators, and community partners, we strengthen what already exists, turning these spaces into launchpads for innovation, resilience, and lasting change.
